Rive was purchased as
an in-calf heifer in 1981 from Albert Howie
who had imported her from Monsieur Guy Defaye.
She can easily be regarded as the second
most prolific breeder in Ronick herd next
to Broadmeadows Ainsi. Rive now has a number
of relatives in the herd principally from
five daughters that were retained in the
herd:
Rive is also grand-dam of Ronick Cosmos
senior herd sire for Peter Henshall.
Ronick Tracy proved to
be a star of the herd not only in the show
ring but also as an outstanding breeder.
She is dam of Ronick
Beauty by Oakley
Tavy who won her class at the Royal Highland Show
and the Royal Show in 1989 and went on at
the Royal that year to become Reserve Breed
Champion and Reserve Female Champion to Usabelle.
Tracy is also dam of Ronick Gertrude by Talent who was sold privately to David Freer and
who has went on to breed many high priced
animals for him:
- Croft Napoleon- Reserve Overall Champion
at Carlisle Feb 1999 and sold for 3600gns.
- Croft Orielle – Sold for 3200gns
at Carlisle Red Ladies Day in November
2000.
- Croftlimousin
Spencer – Overall
Champion at Carlisle May 2003 and sold
for 8000gns.
- Croftlimousin
Squire – Sold for
9000gns at Carlisle May 2003 to S.J. Jessop & D.
McBeath.
Another daughter out of Ronick Tracy retained
in the herd was Ronick Eve who has bred a
number of females who have been sold on to
many different pedigree herds as well as
being the mother of Ronick Merit who won
4th in her class at the Royal Highland show
1998 and has been retained in the herd. A
granddaughter Ronick Tanache is included
in the show team for 2004.
Ronick Vivian has also
bred exceptionally well and was flushed in
1993 to Ami producing 3 daughters:
- Ronick Iris was sold to the Lyvennet
herd owned by Fenton Brass.
- Ronick Ivy was
sold to the Smithston herd owned by John
Smillie. At the Smithston dispersal sale
Ivy was sold for 2000gns at 10 years old
and a daughter by Ronick Idol was sold
for 4800gns.
- Ronick Innes was retained in the herd
for a number of years prior to being sold
privately to Mr K Donald.
Ronick Bluebell was shown as a heifer winning
3 rd prize in her class at the Royal Highland
Show in 1988. She has bred mostly bulls with
the exception of Ronick Geranium who was
sold privately to the Lyvennet herd and Ronick
Orleans who is retained in the herd.
Ronick Emerald is still breeding
in the herd today at 15 years old making her
the oldest cow in the herd. In that time she
has had 12 calves her top priced bull being
Ronick Icon by Broadmeadows
Cannon who sold
for 6300gns. She has a number of younger daughters
retained in the herd. |
